What to Expect from an In-Home Newborn Session in Chattanooga, TN
There’s something really special about photographing a family in their own space during those early days with a new baby.
If you’ve been thinking about newborn photos but aren’t sure what an in-home session actually looks like, this will give you a better idea of what to expect.
This session was a perfect example of how simple and meaningful these moments can be.
Before I arrived, mom shared how much their baby seemed to love music … especially when dad played guitar or piano. She thought his reaction was the sweetest!
So instead of trying to create poses, we made space for things mom and dad wanted to remember.

In-home newborn sessions are slow, flexible, and centered around your baby.
There’s no pressure for things to go a certain way. If your baby needs to be fed, changed, or held … that’s all part of the session.
Most of the time, I’m simply observing:
Nothing needs to be perfect. Your home doesn’t need to be spotless. Your baby doesn’t need to sleep the entire time.

One of the biggest questions I get is how to prepare for an in-home session.
The honest answer is: you don’t need to do much.
A few simple things that help:
You don’t need to have your baby perfectly fed, changed, or “ready” before I arrive.
Some of the most meaningful photos come from the in-between moments … feeding your baby, changing a diaper, rocking them back to sleep, or wrapping them up after a bath. Those small routines are a real part of this season, and they’re often the moments parents miss the most later.
If those things happen during the session, that’s completely okay. In fact, they can make for some of the sweetest images.
There’s no pressure for everything to be perfectly timed. We simply follow your baby’s rhythm.

Some of my favorite moments from this session came from something so simple … dad playing music.
No direction, no posing. Just a familiar part of their everyday life.
Those are the moments that can’t be recreated and they’re often the ones families end up loving the most.
